On Wednesday evening when Pope Francis arrived in Kenya, he sent a powerful message of humility and equality that left senior Government leaders with eggs on their faces.
Unlike Kenyan politicians who always cruise around in expensive limousines, the Pope opted for a cheap and economic Honda car sending a strong message to President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy, William Ruto, who are known for their lavish spending.
But what stunned ordinary Kenyans is that despite the threat of terrorism, the Pope travelled with his car window down, eschewing the dark tinted windows favored by Jubilee leaders and corrupt Government officials.
The Pope beamed as he was greeted by singing, ululating crowds. At one point, he even shook hands with a security guard at State House, the official residence of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“He does not fear Al Shabaab like our leaders who always use tinted windows. He is the Pope of the poor and he demonstrated this on Wednesday,” Father Pius Chege from the Catholic Diocese of Nakuru said.
